Welcome to the GraphOn License Manager page. Should you have any questions or suggestions regarding this site, please let us know by emailing
licenses@graphon.com.
What is a
License Manager?
A License
Manager is an employee of a company that has been issued a stock,
or inventory, of licenses for one or more GraphOn products. The
License Manager Interface is your tool for issuing and monitoring
those licenses. Instead of having GraphOn do it for you, you now
have the control and flexibility to issue licenses yourself.
What is a
License?
A License
is a text file installed with your software that tells your application
that your customer has the right to run your software. It is the
equivalent to keys for your car -- without keys, your car will
not run, or will not run very well.
What do I
need to do to use the License Manager?
Your company
needs to have agreed with GraphOn to be issued an inventory, and
you, specifically, need a License Manager Account with GraphOn.
If you don't have one yet, you'll need to coordinate with GraphOn's
Sales and Accounting team to get one. If your company has never
had an inventory from GraphOn before, you'll need a Company Account
as well.
Once the Company
Account is set up, GraphOn's Accounting team will be able to issue
you a login and password. Confirmation that you are a designated
License Manager for your company will be required.
Once your
company's account is configured, and you have received your login
and password, you'll be able to issue product codes for licenses
immediately.
GraphOn license
inventories are currently available for Bridges for UNIX/Linux,
GO-Global UX, and GO-Global XP.
What is a
Product Code?
A product
code is a receipt for a software purchase. It's a proof-of-purchase
provided to your customer. Once you have received payment for
your software, you issue a product code to your customer.
Your customer must then take the product code and use it to complete
their license registration.
How do my
Customers Register a License?
After receiving
a product code, your customer must fill out a three-step registration
form at http://license.graphon.com/user/ . They will be:
- asked for
contact information, including their email address,
- shown a
copy of the GraphOn Software Agreement,
- asked for
information about their license server(s) [specifically, hostname
and hostid], and their product code.
A usable license file will then be generated for them.
How do my
Customers Receive Their License(s)?
The license,
once generated, is displayed on the customer's web browser --
and they are welcome to cut and paste from there. The license
file is also sent to the customer via email. The email includes
license installation instructions, which vary for GraphOn's products,
but will tell your customer where on their filesystem to save
the license file.
How do I
Customize the License Manager?
You can
customize the License Manager Interface two different ways,
so that the interface is presented in your own company's layout,
or look-and-feel.
Method
1.
- Ask GraphOn
for your 'template id'.
- Give
GraphOn an HTML [.htm, .html, or .dwt] template file to 'wrap'
your interface in.
- Put a
link to GraphOn's website on your company's website, using
that id, i.e.,
http://license.graphon.com/mgr/license_login.cgi?Template_Company_ID=_your_id_here_
Method
2.
- Ask GraphOn
for your 'template id'.
- Put a
link to GraphOn's website on your company's website via a
frameset, using that id, i.e.,
<html>
<head>
<title>Acme Software Company</title>
</head>
<frameset rows="80,*" frameborder="NO"
border="0" framespacing="0">
<frame name="topFrame" scrolling="NO"
noresize src="../your_company_layout.html" >
<frame name="mainFrame" src="http://license.graphon.com/mgr/license_login.cgi?Template_Company_ID=_your_id_here_">
</frameset>
<noframes><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000">
</body></noframes>
</html>
For Method
#1, when you update your site look and feel, you'll need to
provide us with an updated template. For Method #2, you will
not.
Both methods
require that you notify GraphOn of your intentions -- otherwise
your interface will use the GraphOn corporate website look and
feel.
How do I
Customize the License Generator my Customers Use?
Exactly
like the License Manager instructions, only the URL is different.
Your links, whether made directly from your website or via a
frameset, will point to a different CGI:
http://license.graphon.com/user/user_pcode.cgi?Template_Company_ID=_your_id_here_
How do I
issue a Product Code?
to the License Manager Interface.
- On the
main page, you will see summary information about your available
inventory of product licenses.
- You will
also see a form marked 'redeem an existing product code' and
'issue a product code'.
- In the
'issue a product code' section, select your desired product
from the pulldown menu.
- Hit the
button marked 'Issue Product Code'.
- Fill out
the resulting form. The exact nature of that form will vary
depending on your company's account with GraphOn, and the product
itself. However, the basics are:
- license
type
- number
of users
When you're
satisfied with your input, hit the button marked 'Get Product
Code'.
- Use the
resulting form to email product code to your customer [or a
post-sales install technician, or whomever needs it].
If you've made a mistake, DON'T EMAIL THE PRODUCT CODE. Just
hit the 'back' button on your browser or in the navigation menu,
and try again. A product code is not 'frozen', or fully issued,
until you have emailed it to your customer.
- You will
see a final product code summary page that lists:
- the
product code
- license
summary information
- the
email address to which the product code was sent
The product
code will be displayed on your web browser, and, if you are
conducting an install, or providing close assistance to your
customer, you may wish to exchange the product code for the
license file yourself.
How do I
Generate a License Myself?
There are
two methods for generating a license yourself.
Method
1: Via the License Manager Interface
- Issue a
product code [see How do I Issue a Product Code?].
- Highlight
and copy the product code from the page displayed on your browser.
- Select
'Main' from the License Manager navigation menu.
- You will
be returned to the main page for the License Manager.
- Copy the
product code into the input text box marked "Redeem An
Existing Product Code".
- Hit the
button marked "Redeem".
- You will
be shown a form like the one you used to issue the product code.
It will include [at most], three new sections:
- Are
you using redundant servers? [useful if your customer has
a 3-server backup license system for their software]
- License
Specifics [license server hostname and hostid for non-backup-based
installs]
- CC
License to [where you would like a copy of the license sent
-- one will automatically go to you]
- The purpose
of this form is to let you further customize the license settings
before actually generating the license. This may be handy if
you are working with an onsite install technician, and find
that the install parameters have changed since you issued the
product code.
- The resulting
license will be displayed on your web browser, and emailed to
you and any other recipient list you specify.
Method
2: Via the End User Interface
- Issue a
product code to yourself and/or your customer [see How do I
Issue a Product Code?]
- Exit the
License Manager [click on 'exit' in the navigation menu]
- Use the
standard License Generator to generate a license, on your customer's
behalf
If you
use your customer's contact information [with their permission,
of course], the resulting license will be sent via email directly
to them, as well as displayed to you on your web browser.
Where can
I learn more about License Management?
To learn about
how FLEXlm licenses work [and that's what GraphOn uses], you can
